A Day at Hippodrome d’Auteuil in Paris:
Horse Racing, Photography, and a Lucky Win
During one of our trips around Paris, my husband and I decided to spend a day at the famous Hippodrome d’Auteuil, one of France’s most prestigious horse racing venues. Located in the elegant 16th arrondissement of Paris, Auteuil is renowned for its thrilling steeplechase races, beautiful grounds, and rich equestrian tradition.
From the moment we arrived, we were impressed by the atmosphere. The expansive green racecourse, elegant grandstands, and magnificent horses created a unique experience unlike any other. For photography enthusiasts, Hippodrome d’Auteuil offers countless opportunities to capture memorable images, from panoramic views of the track to close-up moments featuring jockeys, racehorses, and spectators.
One of the highlights of our visit was photographing the horses during the parade ring presentation before each race. Watching the athletes prepare for competition provided excellent opportunities for documentary and sports photography. Throughout the day, changing weather conditions over Paris created dramatic skies that added depth and character to many of our images.
The races themselves were exciting and full of energy. Capturing fast-moving horses required quick reactions and careful timing, making this a rewarding challenge from a photographic perspective. These action shots later became some of the strongest images in the series.
To make the most of the photographs, each image was professionally edited and retouched during post-processing. Color correction helped enhance the vibrant green landscape of the racecourse, while subtle retouching improved contrast, lighting, and overall visual impact without compromising the authenticity of the scene. One unexpected highlight of the day was that we actually won a small bet on one of the races. While our main goal was simply to enjoy the experience and create photographs, receiving a winning ticket added an extra layer of excitement and made the visit even more memorable.
